Founded in 1521 by Jakob Fugger, the Fuggerei is the world’s oldest social housing complex still in use. It was established to provide affordable homes for Augsburg residents in need. To this day, people with modest incomes live here for an annual basic rent of just €0.88. This charming neighborhood is therefore not reserved for the wealthy, but remains true to its original charitable purpose.
Like a small town within a city, the Fuggerei has its own church, a beer garden, and even its own honey, known as Fuggerei honey.
The photos offer a brief glimpse into this peaceful and picturesque community.

Bolognas Stadtbild wird seit dem Mittelalter von den „Portici“ geprägt . Die heute rund 62 Kilometer langen Arkadengänge entstanden nicht aus repräsentativen Gründen, sondern aus Platzmangel und dem Wachstum der Stadt. Häuser wurden über den Straßen erweitert und mit Säulen abgestützt. Seit 2021 gehören zwölf Abschnitte — darunter die Casa Isolani, die Via Saragozza und Santa Maria dei Servi — zum UNESCO-Welterbe.
In Bologna, the porticoes have shaped the cityscape since the Middle Ages. Today stretching for around 62 kilometres, they emerged not from prestige, but from population growth and limited space. Houses expanded above the streets, supported by columns. Since 2021, twelve sections — including Casa Isolani, Via Saragozza and Santa Maria dei Servi — have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Entlang des Rio Arade flussaufwärts bis nach Silves fahren, den Küstenwegen bei Albufeira und Quarteira folgen, auf dem Fischerpfad bei Carrapateira wandern, der Via Algarviana folgen oder sich im Hinterland nördlich von Loulé verlieren – dies waren unsere persönlichen Entdeckungen einer Wanderwoche an der Algarve.
Travelling upstream along the Rio Arade towards Silves, following the coastal paths near Albufeira and Quarteira, hiking the Fishermen’s Trail near Carrapateira, following the Via Algarviana or getting lost in the inland landscape north of Loulé — these were our personal discoveries during a week of hiking in the Algarve.

Impressionen aus dem Kölner Karneval – Carnival in Cologne
Die Kölner Schull- un Veedelszöch sind besonders für die Schulen und Stadtteile etwas ganz wichtiges und das Jahresereignis im Karneval. Mit über 8000 aktiven Teilnehmenden, organisiert in etwa 90 Gruppen, ziehen sie durch die Kölner Innenstadt und werden dort von über 300000 Kölner Jecken gefeiert.
The Cologne School and Neighborhood Parades are particularly important for the schools and neighborhoods, and they are the highlight of the Carnival season.
